LUCKY teenagers walking along a main road in Bromsgrove found an envelope stuffed with £1,000 -- hidden under a crisp packet.
Police praised 15-year-old Aimee Davis and Martin Richards, aged 16, for their honesty in handing the cash into officers at the station.
The two pupils at North Bromsgrove High School, in School Drive, found the money in Birmingham Road near the junction with Burcot Lane as they walked to school.
They joked that the envelope might contain cash -- and were astonished to see it really was filled with banknotes.
Martin's father was called to take them to Bromsgrove police station, in the Crescent, where they were told that if no one came forward to prove the money was theirs within 28 days, the youngsters could share the spoils.
But plans for spending £500 each were quickly scotched when it was heard a man had claimed the money the same day, Tuesday May 8.
However, a week later they received a letter of thanks and a £10 reward each, sent from Australia where the man who lost the money was on holiday.
Sgt Andy Chinn, from Bromsgrove police said: "We were very pleased they showed so much honesty and integrity.
"They set a good example for everyone to follow and I wrote a letter to congratulate them."
North Bromsgrove High School headmaster Kevin Peck said: "There are lots of bad news stories about young people and it's gratifying to be able to celebrate the honesty and goodwill which most teenagers display."
