A HOSPITAL has confirmed the still born baby born to a Bromsgrove couple a decade ago had his organs removed without their consent.
Birmingham Wom-en's Hospital originally told Sharon and Ian Henfield their son Jack, born April 28 1990, had not had his organs removed.
But two weeks ago the couple rang a special hotline based at the hospital and discovered all his organs had been removed and 61 microscopic samples had been retained.
Despite this specialists did not find out what was wrong with the baby.
The revelation comes after the Government gave the hospital the go ahead to begin releasing information about its pathology practices.
New strict guidelines will prevent any further cases of organs being reta-ined without permission.
Hospital chief executive Caroline Wig-ley said: "It was common practice to remove organs.
"We recognise this is very harrowing and distressing for parents and we're trying to handle things as sensitively as we can."
The Advertiser/-Messenger was una-ble to contact Mr and Mrs Henfield at the time of going to press.
