THE LITmus Trio - Hannah Lane, flute; Toby Turton, cello; and Peter Hewitt, piano - brought the 2000/01 season to a delightful conclusion.
The evening opened with an accomplished performance of Mozart's flute sonata in F, after which Toby gave an absorbing account of Beethoven's C major sonata.
The second half of the programme provided the opportunity to hear all three players in a Gossec trio and arrangements of movements from piano trios by Mendelssohn and Schubert.
Toby played two works by Squire, including the virtuoso Tarentella, and Hannah gave a breathtaking account of the Fantasy on Verdi's II Trovatore. An arrangement for the Trio by Peter of one of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances ended what has been an extremely successful season musically but a disappointing one as far as audience numbers was concerned.
The society's 40th season opens in October with a third visit from Muse&Music in a light-hearted programme, Mad about Musicals.
Other concerts will be given by The Markham Trio, the Evesham-born pianist Philip More, a flute and harp duo, the Czardas Duo, a Mozart evening by the Englefield Ensemble and a visit by Classic Rhythm who usually play to sell-out audiences.
