WORCESTERSHIRE'S lower-order batsmen rescued them from disaster on the opening day of their Second XI Championship clash with Yorkshire at Scarborough.
They were quickly reduced to 65-6 but Kadeer Ali held firm with a fine 78, and along with debutant Andy Gray (46), an Australian all-rounder who is the professional at Scarborough, they put on 117 for the seventh wicket.
Depesh Patel (31no) and Steve Ellis (26) added a further 50 for the ninth wicket as the County were eventually dismissed for 244, Paul Hutchison taking 6-66.
Yorkshire closed on 91-1 in reply.
