IT is very easy to be critical of any new move to ease the traffic problems of our city, and I have no wish to be accused of so doing.
But together with many people in Barbourne and north Worcester, I cannot help but question the viability of the new park-and-ride scheme.
We have read two reports of the success of the scheme that has been in operation for a month, and watched so many large empty buses going to and fro that many people are querying the accuracy of the information given to you.
Six buses an hour for 12 hours a day makes 72 buses carrying 300 to 500 people equal an average of between four and seven per bus. Is this really a success?
Unbiased
Could we be told what the building of the terminus in Droitwich Road coast and what it costs to run?
Could we be told what the bus lanes have cost, including that in Barbourne Road which has now been in operation for five years, and could we be told what it costs to run each bus, and has cost so far?
Could we have an unbiased report with no political point-scoring as this is a matter of great concern to many in the north of our city and should not be a political matter.
It is to be hoped that in time, this will be a service that is self-financing. And until that time, no further schemes should be started.
JOHN R RICHARDS,
Barbourne, Worcester.
