ON Wednesday afternoon, an impressive cavalcade of roadmaking equipment, including a tarmac-laying machine, two rollers and several other vehicles, could be seen making its way up West Malvern Road, heralding the promised resurfacing of the stretch from the Brewers' Arms to the speed limit at the south end of the village.

Actual surfacing work should be completed today (Friday), in time for the Bank Holiday weekend and the road markings replaced as early as next week. The Malvern Highways Partnership say that additional work to patch up the numerous potholes along West Malvern Road is part of a wider programme but is expected to be carried out within the next few weeks.

The month of May is indeed proving a merry one down at West Malvern's Community Woodland off Old Hollow. Now that the trees and shrubs planted three years ago have opened their leaves, the area is beginning for the first time to look more like a woodland. In addition, the wild flowers which were sown with the grass seed along the path margins promise a fine show in the next week or two, especially the 'pennymoon' daisies which in places have spread back among the trees. A few bluebells in the ash wood area are now in bloom and will spread in future years. And further on down in High Wood, recent thinning operations by the Madresfield Estate have contributed to a wonderful show of bluebells. Well worth a look round this weekend.
