OF course I would agree entirely with the sentiments expressed by David Tarplett under the heading 'Have dog owners no shame?'. He is absolutely correct to feel incensed, we all do - and I am a dog owner and I think a responsible one.
I would be the first to admit it is not easy to achieve the desired objective when walking on the hills or commons. Dogs have a tendency to 'take off' when released from their shackles. Having said that, not to deal with rubbish - whether it be left by dogs or humans - is no excuse whatsoever. When dog faeces are deposited on pavements and owners 'walk by on the other side', then perhaps the powers that be should print a few notices, well displayed, pointing out that the essence of good manners is consideration for other people.
To carry the argument of responsibility to its logical conclusion, one might also mention the sheep owners and parents who allow their offspring to cycle on the hills and commons.
