WORCESTER Nomads suffered their worst weekend for a number of seasons with four out of the five senior teams being easily defeated with only the third eleven struggling to a winning draw.

With five changes from the previous weekend, it was always going to be difficult to cross the Severn and defeat a strong Old Elizabethan 1sts.

In the event, apart from the first few overs when Steve Bowman clean bowled Mark Groves and ex Nomad Paul Proctor, the OEs never lost control of this local encounter and took nearly all the honours with Sean Cairney (101no) and Sprague (76no) scoring most of the runs while Schiffman (3-10) and May (3-34) ran though the Nomads batting. Darren Lakin (34) and Steve Bowman (19) offered brief resistance but the OEs made certain of their top place in Division One winning by 156 runs.

The Old Elizabethans won the second eleven fixture at Bransford but Nomads 3rd X1 playing Feckenham 3rd X1 at St Peter's, Droitwich enjoyed a very close match with Feckenham finishing eight runs short.

On Sunday Nomads fared little better, but, despite several players being unavailable, did turn out two full teams with the assistance of young members of the Club.

At Bransford the 2nd X1 batted slowly against some accurate Broadwas bowling and by tea could manage only 109 all out on a turning pitch made slow by the recent storms. Tom Cullen (40) was the only Nomad to look confident with a fine innings, but only three other batsmen- James Massey, Guy Broadfield and Bill Jones reached double figures. Broadwas took 28 overs to reach their target but were in little difficulty with Geoff Wildsmith (49) and David Hopkins (32) scoring most of the runs. The 1st X1 travelling to Evesham met some aggressive fast bowling from Massingham (5-41) and lost by 105 runs.

It was a different story at youth level with victories by the under 12 'B' team at Martley and Malvern Ramblers, the under 13's against Colwall and Old Elizabethans and the under 15's against Malvern Ramblers. The under 10's enjoyed a close match against Dominies and Guild but went down by only 6 runs.
