BEFORE there are any more "broadsides" there needs to be a re-defining of targets and re-alignment of sights.
When I recently wrote that a modern frigate had fire power comparable to the entire Grand Fleet at Jutland, I was quoting a fact that is well known and readily verifiable to those of us who maintain naval contact.
I also made the incontrovertible observation that despite diminished numbers, the modern Royal Navy maintains a capability unsurpassed in its long history.
This was to correct a manifestly obvious mis-statement to the contrary by an earlier correspondent and was in no way concerned with political policy on defence nor with strategy.
