NEWTOWN and Bromyard met in the final of the Philip Jeynes U11s Memorial Cup and both teams contributed to an outstanding match.

NEWTOWN SPORTS BOYS 0, BROMYARD TOWN

JUNIORS 0

(Newtown won 3-1 on pens).

This was a typical hard fought cup match with neither side willing to give ground. Newtown's Mark Holbrow and Lee Hammond ensured that their keeper, Peter Boardman, was well protected whilst at the other end Matthew Higgs worked hard.

In the second half Bromyard took the game to Newtown and were denied by an outstanding save from Josh Allison. With Bromyard pushing forward Newtown's midfield of Adam Johnson, Phillip Harris and Ricky Buckland had to work hard to prevent any further Juniors' progress and they were able to hit back on the break. Jamie Ferguson's arrival for Newtown also put pressure on the Bromyard defence but their best effort came from a Buckland lob, over the keeper, which narrowly missed the far post.

Despite extra time neither team could find a way through their opponents' defences and it was left to the penalty takers to decide the winners. Harris and Buckland gave Newtown a great start and it was left to Hardy to strike the winning penalty, for a remarkable league and cup double.
