JOHN Bickerton was six strokes off the lead going into today's second round of the Volvo PGA Championships at Wentworth.
The 31-year-old, from Droit-wich, ended the first round at the West Course on a three under par 69, six behind leader Argentina's Angel Cabrera.
Another local ace hoping for a second good round today was Hereford's David Park of the Bughill Valley club who shot a par 72 yesterday.
Cabrera, biggest hitter on the European tour and leader of the Masters early in the final round last month, took a two-stroke lead over Welshman Phillip Price into today.
Paul McGinley is one stroke further back along with Scot Andrew Oldcorn and Australian left-hander Nick O'Hern and since he and Price are seventh and sixth respectively in the Ryder Cup points race, this is obviously a big three days for them both.
First prize on Monday is £333,330 and for either of them that would virtually guarantee them a debut in September.
n Australian Bradley Hughes equalled the course record with a bogey-free eight-under-par 63 to grab a one-shot lead during the second round at the Kemper Open in Potomac. He stands at nine-under 133 after 36 holes.
