AFTER my recent Memory Lane feature on the Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society, reader Granville Jackson was in touch with vivid memories of a night at the Theatre Royal, in 1931.
As a boy of nine, he was up in "the Gods" of the Angel Street auditorium to watch his mother, Mrs Edith Jackson, take part in a WODS' production of The Arcadians.
Granville, who has lived most of his life in Worcester, recalls that his mother, previously a member of amateur operatic societies in Leeds and Walsall, was always to be found right at the back of the chorus.
"There was a simply explanation for this," says Granville.
"Her voice was so strong that if she had been placed any further forward, she would have drowned everyone else out!"
