ONE of Worcestershire's oldest residents will be toasting her long life today as she celebrates her 104th birthday.
Agatha Caren was the youngest of four children. In her teens and early 20s she was a keen swimmer and particularly enjoyed diving.
She worked in a bank until she met and married Harry Caren. The couple had one son, Guy.
Mrs Caren gave up paid work, but supported dozens of good causes in her spare time.
"She dedicated a lot of time to many different charities," said her son. "I remember that she was always doing something to help them out."
The family moved from Dartmoor to Colwall, near Malvern, in 1977.
"She lived in the family house until February, when she moved into Sherborne Tower Care Centre, at Malvern Wells," added Mr Caren.
"She had quite a big fall in her 102nd year, which set her back a bit."
Mr Caren will be at his mum's birthday party today, with his wife and their two children.
Linda Griffiths, spokeswoman for the care centre, said a party had been planned.
"We'll have some sparkling wine and a birthday cake and we'll obviously make a toast to her," she said.
