TWO Worcestershire Farmers re-launching their business after the foot-and-mouth crisis have said their scarecrow competition was a great community success.

Meg and Will Edmonds, of Roots Organic Farm at Rushwick, near Worcester, held the competition on Saturday with more than 300 people showing their support for the couple.

The scarecrow competition itself had 28 entries with great contributions from nearby Rushwick Primary School.

All of the children's designs entered will be used to protect this year's fruit and vegetable harvests.

The day's events included suppliers providing a feast of foods from asparagus, bacon and sausages to organic icecream and a selection of country wines.

" We are so delighted by the strong support we have had from all of the local residents," said Mrs Edmonds.

"The day itself was marvellous and went well beyond all our original expectations."

Winners were, from the left: Francesca Wilson, Daniel Watson and Georgina Watson. Second was Jacob Vernalls and third was Callum Cartwright.
