I WENT to the UK Independence Party public meeting. Their guests were interesting speakers.
The question in my mind had been whether these people were electable and what might they offer?
Since neither major party offers a policy on Europe where the euro-cautious may safely place their vote, it is tempting to support a new party which might.
But is the UKIP an inclusive party? There seemed to be few from the younger generation present. If the party wishes to seem relevant to the young it might be a useful idea to stop talking about the war so much.
Suppose it formed a Government and we achieved withdrawal from the EU. Would we then find ourselves with a Conservative Government?
Would it be Heathite or Thatcherite and would this prospect necessarily be something in which to rejoice for those on the Left or for the socially-excluded? We need some more meat on this for reassurance.
WENDY HANDS,
Upton-upon-Severn.
