A LONG-serving member of Redditch Golf Club who celebrated his 100th birthday was presented with an engraved cut glass bowl to mark the occasion.
Ivor North Lewis, a talented all-round sportsman, played golf well into his 80s and in his younger days had a handicap of one.
He won many trophies and prizes, represented Derbyshire and Leicestershire at county level and was club champion at a number of clubs.
In 1996 he was made an honorary member of Redditch Golf Club in recognition of his achievements.
A number of members at the Webheath club also gave Mr North Lewis individual personalised gifts and he was particularly proud to receive the customary card from the Queen.
Until recently, Mr North Lewis lived alone in Astwood Bank with help and support from friends and social services.
He has two children, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Part of his working life was spent managing the family coal mine until his family moved to the Midlands in the early 1950s when he joined Pilkington Ltd.
