GARY Hackett has severed his links with Bromsgrove Rovers while director of football Steve Daniels has been confirmed as the Greens' new boss.

Hackett, who was Daniels's right-hand man during his stint with the Greens, is now looking to manage a side of his own.

Halesowen-based Hackett has served a lengthy apprenticeship following a playing career that took in clubs like West Brom, Aberdeen and Stoke City.

He was player-coach at Stourport Swifts and right-hand man at Stourbridge and Halesowen Town before linking up with Daniels.

Hackett said: "I enjoyed my time at Bromsgrove. It's a good club but now I'm looking to get involved with football again and I'd like to be a manager in my own right.

"Steve has asked me repeatedly to stop and work in some capacity but I would like to be a manager in my own right.

"I've nothing against Bromsgrove. I've enjoyed my spell there, even though we ended up being relegated."

Daniels, meanwhile, has reportedly been given a three-year deal with Rovers and will also continue as director of football -- a move that has disappointed former fitness coach Paul Madders, who had hoped for a swift return as boss at Rovers.

Daniels has already held talks with ex-Kidderminster Harriers and Telford United defender Jon Ford, as well as former Rovers skipper Russell Dodd, who has been freed by Solihull Borough. Redditch United trio Scott Colcombe, Mark Swann and Martin Myers are also on the wanted list, as is Blakenall striker Matt Coppin.

Club captain Quentin Townsend could be on his way out though. He is being tracked by a number of clubs, including Halesowen Town, Bridgnorth Town and Evesham United.

Townsend won the fans' player of the year award while Steve Frost took the overall player of the year award.
