A MOTIVATED Bromsgrove worker is getting behind the wheel to ferry much-needed goods to orphans in Romania where he will also carry out vital work.

Mick Taylor, who is based at Severn Trent Water's Sugarbrook depot, in Buntsford Hill, is one of a group of workers nationwide who are making the journey to Siret, one mile from the Ukraine border.

Severn Trent first got involved in a charity called The Romania Challenge Appeal eleven years ago as part of the TV programme Challenge Anneka.

Kindhearted staff have revisited the orphanage over the years to try and improve the lives of the youngsters there.

They have donated food, clothes, toiletries and helped build new halfway houses for those lucky enough to leave the establishments.

This Friday, Mick will join the rest of the crew overseas to help lay waterpipes and Severn Trent has given the helpers time off work and loaned lorries.

It is his third trip -- his first was so moving he was compelled to go back and help.

Although there are now more restrictions on what goods Mick can deliver, he still manages to take a few sweets and toys for the children.

The dad-of-two said: "It is a totally humbling experience especially when you have children yourself.

"The smell of the orphanage just knocks you over but you have to get on with it - it's just something you do.

"Severn Trent supports the campaign and we are also busy lobbying suppliers to give us the equipment we need for different projects.

"I will probably go back again," he said.
