AT the May meeting, held at the Kings Court Hotel, Mrs Caroline Newey, from Alcester, gave a talk about her holiday on the volcanic rock island of the Galapagos.
She vividly described the boat trip and the rough sea landings and gave an insight into the animal and bird life.
Slides showed her walking through groups of seals, giant tortoises and sea iguanas, swimming with sea lions and closely viewing baby albatrosses and blue footed boobies.
The creatures are totally unfazed by the human visitors, who are only allowed in small groups escorted by wardens to and from the boat.
The Charles Darwin Research Centre has been set up to monitor and observe the wildlife, otherwise the islands are unpopulated.
Mrs Newey was thanked by Mrs Brenda Williams for her much appreciated talk.
The next meeting will be the AGM on June 13, but a cream tea afternoon has been arranged for members in the lounge of the Kings Court Hotel on Wednesday, June 6, from 3pm onwards.
