TWO Kidderminster Golf Club members were delighted to win their respective Worcestershire Championships - but for different reasons.
Ann Hunter won the veterans competition for the fourth time but for Karen Greenfield in the ladies, it was a first title at the 12th time of asking.
Former county captain Hunter took the championship off a 12 handicap over her main rivals from Droitwich Spa at Kings Norton Golf Club.
She said: "It was quite tough really and I was delighted to win. I've played a bit of county golf, mainly for the second team but on the odd occasion for the firsts.
"I will try to retain my title next year. The players may have gone up a bit in handicap and age but it is still quite a good standard of golf."
Off a five handicap, Worcestershire player Greenfield, in her fifth final, triumphed after 36 holes of qualifying medal round and then knockout matchplay at Stourbridge.
She admitted: "It was one of those days when everything went right for me.
"It was my 12th attempt and fifth time in the final so it was a little bit overdue."
Greenfield, who started playing at Habberley Golf Club, beat fellow town golfer and holder Sarah Nicklin to the title.
They will do battle again at Kidderminster Golf Club's Championships in July in a 36-hole scratch competition.
And both hope for better results with Worcestershire's ladies team who suffered a disappointing 5-4 defeat to Warwickshire recently.
