STOURPORT-BASED Richard Burgess has been handed another year to make an impact at Second Division Port Vale after impressing boss Brian Horton.
The 22-year-old, who has played briefly on loan for Kidderminster Harriers as well as being on the books of Stoke City and Aston Villa, is delighted with the opportunity.
The speedy striker found himself in non-league football last year with Bromsgrove who have since swapped places with promoted Stourport Swifts.
Injuries have not been kind to the former England U-16 cap who is still waiting for his first Football League appearance.
Burgess signed for Vale before transfer deadline day last season and made the substitutes bench during a hectic run-in.
And manager Horton feels the former Stourport High School pupil will help fulfil his need for young, hungry players.
Burgess said: "My aim is to break into the first team as early as possible next season and earn an extended contract. I have been given a year to prove myself and show what I'm capable of."
