RIDERS are being offered the chance to hack out in comfort while raising money to care for neglected horses.
Janet Taylor who runs the Farm Animal Sanctuary in Middle Littleton has 10 specially designed trekking saddles, made in the south of France, and is urging riders to treat themselves and their horses.
"The saddles are made by one master saddler in the south of France and are used over there for trekking or leisure riding," she said.
"I discovered them when I went to France for a break with a friend recently.
"There was a trekking place nearby and we went along to have a look and that is where we saw the saddles in use.
"We were told who made them and went to visit him.
"He is basically a one man band and doesn't export at all, but he can't make enough at the moment so I bought 10 home with me.
" I'd like to sell them and all the money will go to the sanctuary funds."
The saddles have a hollow centre and are based around a strong padded tree.
They have a high pommel and cantle, similar to Western saddles, and are designed to fit almost any build of horse or rider.
Janet said: "I have a driving cob with no withers and I could never find a saddle to fit him.
"I used to ride him bareback, but now I can ride him out properly.
"They are also very comfortable and are ideal for people who want to do long pleasure rides.
"They spread the weight very well so they are also comfortable for the horse," she added.
Janet took the saddles to her usual saddler on her return to have them evaluated and was told the quality of the leather and iron work was first class.
She is asking about £350 each for the saddles which will all go to help the animals at the sanctuary, including the horses, as the charity is currently in desperate need of funds.
