Bewdley v
Pershore
PERSHORE gained a maximum 24 points for the second week in a row when they comprehensively defeated Bewdley in a Worcestershire League division one game on Saturday.
The Bewdley skipper invited Pershore to bat and after losing the early wicket of Lea Hawkes (10), the second pair of Stephen Cooper and Johan Coetsee added an impressive 117 runs.
Following Coetsee's dismissal for 62, the Pershore batsmen continued to push the score along at over five runs per over and after Cooper was dismissed for 76, just four runs short of a personal target, the latter batsmen found the fast outfield to their liking, especially Mark Stevens with a quick fire 26 from only 16 balls.
The Pershore innings closed at 234-8 from their allotted 50 overs. Mark Venross was the most successful Bewdley bowler taking 4-28 from five overs.
In reply the home side were going to have a mountain to climb to get anywhere near the Pershore total and were looking to Mark Bennett for a substantial innings, but after a solid 39 he was dismissed by a good slip catch and the remainder of the Bewdley batsmen followed him back to the pavilion at regular intervals as they were never able to come to terms with the three pronged attack of Hawkes, Coetsee and Martin Johnson, the innings closing at 138 all out in 37 overs.
