A BROADWAY pensioner is calling for emergency repair work to paving stones after she tripped and badly injured herself outside Barn Close Surgery.
Sylvia Sharp, from Leamington Road, was walking along the pavement towards the surgery when she stepped to the right hand side to let oncoming pedestrians pass.
But her right foot caught the side of a slab sending her sprawling.
The accident happened on May 15 and Mrs Sharp, who underwent a hip replacement operation six years ago, badly injured her face.
"My head went straight down. Luckily my handbag saved much of the impact, but my face was badly hurt," she said.
"I had already been into the surgery once, and had to go in again to receive first aid. I was lucky not to have injured myself more severely, but I don't want anyone else tripping over those paving stones - next time it might be much more serious."
Parish clerk Don Shryane said: "I regularly get calls about the unevenness of the pavement area at that spot.
"Many people trip over, but less thank goodness are actually injured. The problem lies with thoughtless motorists who drive over the paving stones illegally, which then loosens them," he added.
"Whenever we report a problem the county's contractors come out and re-set the slabs, but they soon work loose again."
Worcestershire County Council maintenance manager Andy Broome said: "We do respond regularly to complaints. However it's not only motorists driving over them illegally, but traders also have right of access over them.
"Unfortunately as Broadway is a conservation area we are limited as to solutions we can come up with, but we will look again to try to find a long term answer."
