IT was interesting to see the photograph of the old Worcester Locomotive Works in Memory Lane (Saturday, May 26).
In a book published in 1946 - History of the British Railways During the War,1939-45 by R Bell - it is stated that all the GWR locomotive workshops, including Worcester, were used to make bombs during the Second World War.
I would be interested to hear from any reader who can confirm this statement or knows what other war work was done in the various railway workshops at Shrub Hill.
If any one can help me, would they please leave their name and telephone number with the County Archaeological Service (01905 855455).
In due course I will contact them.
