MORE than 400 pupils of a Vale school hope they have set a World record after successfully building a human pyramid.

Under the guidance of PE teacher Stuart Holby, children at Bredon Middle School, Ashton-under-Hill, took an hour to complete the achievement, which has been submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.

The pyramid building, which involved all 401 pupils, was part of the school's annual fundraising day, which it is hoped has generated £4,000.

The school's learning support co-ordinator, Jayne Miller, said the youngsters had to have two attempts, as not all were off the ground for the necessary three seconds.

Earlier in the day, last Thursday, (May 24) the children had taken part in a two-hour relay race, covering just over 500km in total, as part of the fundraising.

Money raised will be split between school funds and the charities the NSPCC, Save the Children and Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood (CLIC).

Mrs Miller said: "We have to send our evidence to Guinness, who haven't had time to draw up guidelines for the attempt. As far as we know, at present, there's no record for it. So, fingers crossed, we should be in with a good chance."
