MEMBERS of a Worcestershire guild were quite literally dyeing to complete their latest venture after taking delivery of 146 miles of thread.
The Worcestershire Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers are getting ready to dye a delivery of thread which will be turned into a 30ft by 10ft tapestry to hang in Worcester's new county hospital.
The tapestry will consist of more than 22,000 one-inch squares and form a pixelated picture representing water, meadows and the sky. The project, financed by Bredon Hill Rotary Club, is expected to cost £2,500 and take two years to complete.
Guild member Beryl Ward said it would be a gift to the community from the Guild to commemorate its 50th anniversary next year.
The women took delivery of the thread at Great Comberton Village Hall.
"We're all very excited, but it's going to be an awful lot of work," she said.
"Members from all over the county will be taking part so it is a massive exercise in planning. We'll have to dye thread to 115 different colours, form the squares and then create the picture so it is going to be a lot of effort.
"But we're all looking forward to seeing it completed."
