WITH the Ledbury Poetry Festival getting under way later this month, the town's Collection Gallery is mounting an exhibition called "Words Worth Waiting For".
Billed as an exhibition where contemporary craft and poetry meet, the exhibition has its preview tomorrow (Saturday) and will run until June 21 at the gallery in The Southend.
Among the artists contributing is Hereford-based Jayne Lennard, whose wire sculptures are entirely in keeping with the exhibition's theme. She has been working with writer Joe Jackson to produce a collection of new work incorporating original poems.
Joining her is Prue Cooper, who will be showing ceramics, and award-winning jeweller Lin Cheung.
Sara Huxley Edwards, who will be showing paintings and embroidery, said the theme of the exhibition also sits well with her work.
"I have a fascination with using words in creating my artwork and believe that words and art used together provoke a powerful response in the onlooker, stimulating an evocative train of thought," she said.
There will also be jewellery work by Mandy Smith, Annabet Wyndham and Hilary Bravo and ceramics by Rosemary Cripps.
The Poetry Festival itself opens on Thursday, June 28, with a launch at the Market House at 6pm with former Arts Minister Lord Gowrie. It runs until July 8.
