A VINTAGE tractor was rescued from the deep and icy waters of Hollybush Quarry after vandals drove it in.
Owner Denis Brandt, of Brewers Cottage, uses the 1954 Fordson Mayor Tractor to power a log-splitter to provide fuel for his home.
But on Sunday, intruders got through barbed wire and drove it over the edge of a 15ft precipice, into 20ft of water.
The tractor is now back on dry land following a rescue operation on Tuesday during which Mr Brandt's son, Philip, aged 35, dived down and attached chains to the vehicle's front axle.
Mr Brandt said his son was "a very good swimmer" but the going was still difficult in the freezing cold water.
Once the chains were attached, the tractor was hoisted into the air by a crane.
Mr Brandt is still unsure whether the diesel tractor, is repairable.
