COLWALL v GOATACRE
AN emphatic nine wicket win over Goatacre from Wiltshire saw Colwall collect their second league win of the season on Saturday with Dave Powell's unbeaten 69 the highlight of a good all round performance.
Damien Berry dismissed both the visiting openers for only 25 runs inside seven overs.
The hard-hitting Turner boosted the Goatacre run rate with a succession of boundaries but was caught well by Will Hards at deep backward square leg for 47. Dave Sutton's four wickets for 54 runs carved through the Goatacre order. These were helped by two excellent catches by Tim Riley and Paul Barnes to reduce the visitors to 166-6 before skipper K Iles came to the crease. His quick fire 50 in 57 balls rejuvenated the Goatacre innings to finish on 183-nine off 50 overs.
In the end Colwall made light work of the total, strolling to victory by nine wickets and with nine overs to spare. This was down to three excellent batting performances as Tom Wolfendale, James Wagstaff and Dave Powell scored the runs between them.
A 112 opening partnership between Wolfendale and Powell set Colwall on the way to a 19 point win as the pairs stiff resistance and at times superb shot play pushed Colwall to within sight of home.
Wolfendale was eventually stumped for 53 but Powell went on to make a top score of 69 not out in a very controlled and well timed innings. He was ably assisted in the last 15 overs by a superb knock of 50 in 43 balls from Wagstaff.
