NEWLAND v KIDDERMINSTER

NEWLAND emerged easy victors thanks to two outstanding individual performances, Jabbar Riaz taking 7-52 and Chris Genever scoring an undefeated 114.

On losing the toss Newland expected a long hot day in the field. Once again opening bowler Alan Rock pulled up injured after taking the first wicket leaving an end free for Jabbar Riaz.

This proved a blessing for Newland as their 'find' of the season raced in and bowling with good pace and excellent control proceeded to home in onto the off stump as the Kidderminster batters had no answer. His first seven overs yielded seven wickets for 20 runs.

At 84-9 Kidderminster looked out of it but an astonishing last wicket partnership of 60, with Newland putting down four catchcing chances, at least gave Kidderminster some hope.

The Newland response was masterful thanks to Chris Genever. Taking a new bat from his vast collection, he proceeded to dominate the entire Newland inning.

With White (12) he added 37 runs. Freeman at the other end watched as he plundered boundary after boundary followed by an uncanny single off the sixth ball of each over.

The pair had put on 78 runs until the unfortunate Freeman (13) was caught on the boundary where the fielder had been set for Genever.

This was to be Kidderminster's last real success as Genever quickly wrapped things up with two towering sixes to secure an emphatic seven wicket victory for Newland and a fine century for himself remaining unbeaten on 114.
