CANON FROME 1ST XI v CRICKHOWELL 1ST XI
CANON Frome travelled to Crickhowell for their first league match of the season due to the foot and mouth enforced closure of their ground.
Batting first, they lost Rob Mence lbw for five with the score on 24. Opener Chris Styles was joined by Andy Rogers and they progressed watchfully to 76 before Rogers holed out for 24. Styles departed soon afterwards for 30 and although Neil Andrews and Rhod Mence took the total past three figures, Frome found themselves bowled out for 123 in 37 overs, Francis taking 6-27.
Frome were boosted when Neil Andrews caught opener Snead off the bowling of Styles for one. Andy Rogers also found his line to take two wickets as Crickhowell reached tea on 18-3.
Rogers struck again to remove the dangerous Francis for 18 and another wicket for Styles saw the home side on 44-5. Opener Lennox was joined by Milsom and they slowly progressed the score to 88 when Rob Farquhar was able to fool Milsom into skying a full toss, which Andrews gleefully pouched. Four wickets fell to Jon Williams as the Welshman were dismissed for 106.
Special mention to wicketkeeper Rhod Mence who only conceded one bye despite the inconsistent bounce of the wicket.
CANON FROME II v GLANGRWYNEY II
Glangrwyney batted positively throughout and Frome did well to restrict the total to 218.
Frome's hopes of scoring the runs were effectively dashed when Davies took three quick wickets when the score was 20. Thereafter, it was a face-saving operation, and much was achieved. The 14-year-old Mathew Fortnam survived the carnage to construct his first 50 in club cricket. His off-side driving was high-class.
The tail wagged its way to 151-9 to make a respectable match tally of nine points.
