A WORCESTER primary school has been recognised for its sporting activities and awarded a national certificate.
St Joseph's RC Primary at Chedworth Drive, Warndon, Worcester, has been named as one of only 100 schools nationwide to win an Activemark from Sport England.
It is a sign of sporting success within the school, showing that its pupils take part in a wide range of activities.
"Activemark is one way of encouraging more children to be involved in sport," said headteacher Marian Jay.
"We're extremely pleased to be awarded with it, children tend to think that if they're not very good at football or netball then they can't do PE.
"But that's not the case, there are lots of sports they can take part in and enjoy.
"Our school has benefited from visits by a wide variety of sports coaches of all ages giving our children positive role models in sport."
Over the last two years the school has provided its pupils with opportunities to play more than 15 different sports, including cricket, rugby, hockey, badminton and gymnastics.
"Our school sports day is organised so that it's a positive experience for all," said Mrs Jay.
"Everyone can earn points for their team, whether they're able or less able at sport."
The Activemark runs until 2004 and the school can apply to renew it.
