A BANNED driver who twice gave police a false name and address when stopped at the wheel has been jailed for nine months.
Trevor Smith admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The 21-year-old was disqualified in July, last year, said Samantha Crabb, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court, but was stopped by police in October, because the tax disc had expired on the car he was driving.
Smith gave his brother's name and ran away as police were checking.
On Saturday, December 30, he was stopped again and once more gave his brother's name.
Police went to his home in Avon Road, Tolladine, Worcester, on Friday, January 5, and found him hiding in the loft.
Francis Laird, defending, said it was an unsuccessful bid to deceive police but Smith's brother was never in jeopardy of being arrested.
On the positive side, Smith had been remanded in custody and stopped taking heroin.
