FARMERS and consumers are celebrating the news that Royal Worcester has opened its markets for the first time since the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
The farmers' markets have not operated since March and local producers have lost out due to the three-month cancellation.
But due to negotiations between agricultural groups, market co-ordinators and MAFF, the market has got the go-ahead with necessary guidelines and precautions firmly in place.
Delighted
"Worcester is delighted to see the return of this popular market," said Amanda Savidge, visitors centre manager.
Tempting delights include meat, vegetables and cakes.
"Our customers are looking forward to buying fresh local produce with the stalls burgeoning with the seasons new fruit and vegetables."
"The markets will give consumers the opportunity to buy traceable local foods direct to the producer and also support local farm businesses," said Ian Hannington, chairman of Worcestershire Farmers Market Group.
The next farmers' market opens on Sunday, July 1, between 10am and 3.30pm at Worcester Visitors Centre, Severn Street, Worcester.
