JUDO: Amy Darch hit the gold medal trail again at the Bushido Open in Wolverhampton as Kidderminster's Samurai Judo Club scooped seven medals.

Darch, 13, destroyed a quality field of blue belts with her last two contests lasting a total of just 16 seconds after some tough early wins.

Emmy Kimberley took a bronze medal in her own weight category but came back strongly in the open event to take a second gold medal for the club.

Kimberley defeated one of the players who had beaten her in her own weight group in the final.

Kate Walker, in the lightweights, won her first four contests comfortably to reach the final but then lost to her main rival in the Midlands to finish with silver.

Walker was also allowed to enter the next weight group up and did well to win a bronze here as well.

Lightweight Sam Stone led the boys' charge with some fine work in the lightest weight.

Six good wins put him into the final where he had his only defeat of the day, giving the club another silver.

Tom Walker also looked on good form although his category had the highest entry of the day with just under 30 players.

A series of good wins took him to the semi-final where he lost to an excellent player from Halesowen.

However, T Walker came back well in the fight-offs for bronze.

Lee Davenport was unfortunate, having to retire after taking a knock, and Ben Newbury reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated.

At the other end of the age range, Joyce Malley continued her preparations for the World Veterans by winning gold at the High Wycombe Masters tournament.

The Masters is regarded as the premier British veterans event, ahead of even the British Championships which Malley is also the reigning champion of.

Mike Waldron also did well to add a bronze for the Samurai club.
