THE Classical Music Society's latest "Live At The Library", provided an evening of piano trios.

Pianist Michael Jones had played in Kidderminster many times, and Dawn Gwilt on cello was making a welcome return to the society.

Howard Marshall was unknown to members, but the amateur violinist was a match for the two professionals.

The programme began with Mozart's B flat major Trio, K 502, the musicians bringing out the beautiful harmonies and responses.

The lesser-known Dvorak's Trio in B flat major, opus 21, was my favourite of the evening. The trio produced an amazing volume, sometimes sounding like more than three instruments, while sensitively playing the lighter passages.

At times majestic, this trio ends with an exhilarating allegro vivace, which was a joy.

The final trio was Mendelssohn's D minor, opus 49, where Michael demonstrated his prowess in the extensive piano part, while the violin and cello were almost "singing", and the frenetic ending was glorious.
