THIS quartet of young ladies were, in the main, note perfect, but there was a lack of expression in their playing.
They began with a reasonable performance of number eight from the Corelli Opus 6 collection, but unfortunately, this was one of their better performances.
To end the first half on the slow movement of Beethoven's Opus 130 Quartet was a mistake. This needs to be part of the complete work, and is far too doleful to play before an interval.
After the break they chose to play one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous works, Air on the G String, but this music should glide, with the notes changing almost unnoticed, and they did not achieve this.
To attempt even part of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue on four instruments was just too ambitious.
This was a very disappointing performance and they really must work on their presentation. VJS
