JUDITH Standing marked her final concert as musical director with a varied programme of great musical items, too numerous to mention individually.
Rose of England and a vocal version of Ronald Bynge's Elizabethan Serenade, called Where The Gentle Avon Flows gave the evening an excellent start.
There were lots of solos and duets, with highlights such as Claire Worboys singing a charming song called Meadow Lark which I had never heard before but apparently comes from a short-lived musical called The Baker's Wife, and Jonathan Darby and Judith were superb in Bess, You Is My Woman Now from Porgy and Bess.
As a great Gilbert and Sullivan fan, I was delighted to find a selection from HMS Pinafore included, and another highlight was a terrific West Side Story medley.
The programme ended with the glorious finale from Tannhauser. Then we were treated to a Gilbert and Sullivan encore - Dance A Cachucha from The Gondoliers, which really did bring this concert to a brilliant close. VJS.
