KIDDERMINSTER MUSIC LIVE
Kidderminster Town Hall
The Valentines, Kidderminster Male Choir and the Summer Singers were joined in the Swan Centre by shoppers, to precede the concert, compered by Mike Bradley of BBC Hereford and Worcester.
The Male Choir were outstanding, and sang Bohemian Rhapsody better than ever. Their version of Sospan Fach, with its "unusual" English words is always a hit, and by contrast they sang the beautiful An Evening's Pastorale.
Next came the Summer Singers, who included a few too many madrigals, but it was good to hear Linden Lea and The Oak and the Ash. We joined them for Edelweiss, then I was surprised at how good Summertime from Porgy and Bess sounded sung by massed voices.
The Valentines ended the evening. This group gets better all the time and delighted the audience with items ranging from a spiritual to Any Dream Will Do.
One of their best offerings was Liverpool Lou and to end a wonderful evening of music-making, the rafters rang as the choirs and audience sang My Heart Will Go On, from the film Titanic.
What a great concert. VJS.
