MIDFIELD man Ian Bogie has bid farewell to Kidderminster Harriers but was full of praise for the club, according to chairman Lionel Newton.

Harriers have settled Bogie's contract, which was due to run until the end of next season, after a disappointing injury-plagued seven months with the club.

Bogie, one of the club's biggest earners, started 20 matches, made nine substitute appearances and scored two goals, in the FA Cup at Burton and against Southend in Division Three.

Newton insisted the parting was "amicable" and 33-year-old Bogie had always admitted he had not lived up to expectations after his free-transfer move from Port Vale.

The man once thought of as the next Paul Gascoigne at Newcastle United has returned to his native north-east to be reunited with his wife and children.

Newton explained: "There is no animosity at all - it just hasn't worked out for him and the club.

"He was very, very complimentary of the club, the facilities and the professionalism here.

"Ian has said there are a super set of lads here and we should be proud. He believes it will be better next year for players like Andy Ducros, Adie Smith and Craig Hinton."

Bogie won over fans after a slow start and gave glimpses of his midfield class but was always hit by fitness problems, particularly a back complaint.

It led boss Jan Molby to believe he was more effective coming off the bench and a superb match-winning display as substitute against Southend gave some weight to that argument.

Bogie previously made around 350 Football League appearances for Newcastle, Preston, Millwall, Leyton Orient and Port Vale.
