A MAN was knocked unconscious in a "vicious" assault as he tried to break up a couple who were arguing in Worcester.
Police believe the 26-year-old victim was attacked with an iron bar.
He can recall intervening in a row between a man and a woman on City Walls Road in the early hours last Sunday and was assaulted near the Queen Street car park.
The man was taken to A&E at the city's Ronkswood Hospital with serious head and wrist injuries, but has since been discharged.
"This was a vicious attack that could have proved more serious," said Det Con Steve Cooper, of Worcester police.
Officers investigating the attack are appealing for information about a white man, 6ft tall, wearing a grey shirt, with blue jeans and black hair.
They would also like to speak to three other men who were in the area but are not believed to have been involved in the attack, as they may have vital information.
The woman - described as slim, 5ft 6in tall, and with dark hair - involved in the argument is also being urged to contact them.
Witnesses should call Worcester police on 01905 723888 or on the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
