AUSTRALIAN paceman Andy Bichel has spelt out his desire to return to Worcestershire for a second season of county cricket.
The Queensland bowler, who is likely to be called into the current Ashes squad if there are any injuries, has made a big impact with bat and ball in his first season at New Road.
The 30-year-old admitted he initially intended to play just one year on the county circuit with Glenn McGrath due to return as the County's overseas player next season, following his great success last year.
But that scenario is now looking highly unlikely because of Australia's gruelling international schedule over the next 12 months and Bichel would jump at the chance to return.
He said: "When I first came over here there was no doubt that it was for one summer only as I didn't have any real insight into county cricket.
"But now I've been here for a couple of months with the Worcester lads and I'm enjoying it so much that if I could come back here for another season it would be fantastic.
"I've had to adjust in terms of the length I bowl. In England it's got to be a lot fuller because the wickets are slower.
"You can't really get into a batsman and unsettle him with a few short balls because of the conditions.
"If you try that, the ball just sits up to be hit. That's probably the biggest difference from back home.
"But I feel I have adjusted quite well to the conditions and I've always prided myself on my batting and it's been nice to get a few runs."
Worcestershire cricket committee chairman Martin Horton confirmed: "Andy has said he would like to come back and he has made a good all-round contribution.
"He is very whole-hearted and we have been lucky in having overseas players in Tom Moody, Glenn McGrath and now Andy who have been totally committed to the county."
