KIDDERMINSTER Harriers have landed a lucrative home tie against First Division play-off finalists Preston North End in the first round of the Worthington Cup.

The mouthwatering fixture on Tuesday, August 21, gives Harriers the opportunity to repeat their giant-killing feats of seven years ago when they dumped the Lancashire side out of the FA Cup during their historic run of 1994.

But the Lilywhites, managed by the highly-rated David Moyes, are renowned as one of the best footballing teams in the First Division and were unlucky not to gain promotion to the Premiership after losing to Bolton Wanderers at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

"It is a fantastic draw, just what the club needed," said Harriers' chairman, Lionel Newton.

"We need to show resilience because our cup form over 20 years has not been great but this is great news and could help our finances."

The first two rounds will now be played over one match rather than on a two-leg basis.
