WHEELS have now been set in motion for a trailblazing event around Hereford's streets showcasing cars and bikes on Saturday, July 14.

The Hereford Motor Show, billed as a promotional opportunity for business and tourism, is to take place in the city centre and will result in the closure of some roads from 6am.

Herefordshire Council's cabinet member for economic development, Chris Chappell said: "This is a unique event and we're hoping it will pave the way for similar promotions that can only help in bringing visitors and residents to the city".

Coun Chappell has written to all city centre businesses and residents to advise them of the event.

Roads will be closed from the entrance to St Peter's Church, including St Peter's Street, Commercial Street and High Town, and from the Farmers Club to include Widemarsh Street and the High Street to the intersection of East Street, West Street and Broad Street.

There will be temporary bus stops on the slip road, blue School Street behind Maylord Shopping Centre and on Victoria Street.

"We're aware that the road closure may cause some difficulties but clearly safety has to be paramount," said Coun Chappell.

He was due to be at 17 St Owen Street between 5.15pm and 6.15pm today to hear any concerns.
