A MAN who admitted wounding a woman with a punch to her eye during a row with her partner has been ordered to pay his victim £300 compensation.

Evesham magistrates also fined Michael Maisey £500 and ordered him to pay £263 costs when he appeared at court yesterday.

The 38-year-old admitted wounding Karen Eacock on December 10 last year. He also admitted assaulting her partner David Jones, for which he was fined £100 and ordered to pay £50 compensation.

For damaging a porch light and Mr Jones' car, which he also admitted, he was fined £50.

Tony Glaze, prosecuting, told magistrates an argument between Maisey and Mr Jones developed into a fight and as Miss Eacock stepped in to try and separate them, she was punched in the eye.

"The cut required stitches, but has healed very well indeed and there's no scar," said Mr Glaze.

Joe Kieran, defending Maisey, of Oldcastle Cottages, Putley, Ledbury, described him as a "very reserved man who has never resorted to violence, and what happened was extraordinary and out of character."

"He's insistent he did not intend to lay a hand upon this woman," he added.

"He left Mr Jones' house in Malvern still angry, petulantly struck out at the light and elbowed the side of the car as he passed it."
