PLANS to demolish shop units in the Kingfisher Centre to recreate a 30,000sq ft variety store have been submitted to Redditch Council, writes Becky Procter.
The plans are part of a £60 million revamp of the centre, aimed at bringing it into the top 10 shopping destinations in the UK by 2002.
An entrance canopy on the corner of Evesham Walk and Park Walk and the closure of the subway behind BHS are all included in the recent plans.
Eighty per cent of the steel framework to create a three-storey building has been erected on the site of the former bus station.
And the creation of a Debenhams department store on the site of Royal Square is gathering momentum, with steel framework starting to be put in place at the end of next month.
