HEREFORDSHIRE made a bold attempt for victory but had to settle for a draw in their Minor Counties Championship Western Division clash with Wiltshire at Colwall.
Set a daunting 480 to win, they closed on 392-8 with the ninth-wicket pair surviving nine overs to avert any prospect of defeat.
Several batsmen made notable scores but nobody could go on to play the big innings required. Skipper Harshad Patel made 69, Ismail Dawood 66, Rob Hughes 42, Andy Edwards 41, Chris Boroughs 39 and Karl Pearson an unbeaten 33.
Wiltshire medium-pacer Richard Bedbrook bowled for most of the innings to take 6-150, giving him impressive match figures of 12-174.
Herefordshire are now looking forward to next Wednesday's Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy third round tie with Middlesex at Luctonians CC, Kingsland.
Before then, they have an ECB 38 County Cup tie with Shropshire at the same venue on Sunday, having already lost their chance of defending the trophy they won last year.
