BROMSGROVE Town Boys U8s 2 Callowbrook Swifts U8s 2. This was another outstanding team performance from Swifts, away from home.
Jay Hurley put Swifts one up early on, picking the ball up from a defensive clearance on the half way line.
Hurley's blistering pace and control was unstoppable as he smashed the ball into the corner of the net.
Town stepped the pace up, firing shots in from all angles, only for Swifts keeper Joseph Esposito to make a number of first class saves.
Some first class defending from Sukpal Sohal to kept Swifts in the game.
Town equalised shortly after to level the game, only for Hurley to smash the crossbar from a thunderbolt just outside the box.
The second half saw end to end action from both sides with Swifts taking the lead for the second time from a Hurley strike from just outside the box.
Town scored late on to even the game up, producing a fair result for both teams. Swifts joint players of the match were Sukpal Sohal and Matthew Wood.
Callowbrook Swifts U12s 4 Maypole Juniors U12s 1. Swifts stormed to victory in the final of the Rubery Juniors five-a-side tournament at the weekend.
In a 21-strong competition, Callowbrook overcame quality opposition, beating Catshill 1-0 in the quarter final and Yardley Kings 2-0 in the semi-final.
They topped their qualifying group with a 100 per cent record with wins over Headless Cross and Austin Sports. Oliver Franklin was player of the day and was among the scorers in the final along with Joshua Taylor-Gates and Kenny Matthews.
Results of the Rubery Juniors five-a-side tournament finals at Bay Tree Farm, Wythall, at the weekend are as follows: U8s: Redditch United 2 Maypole 0; U9s: Feckenham Colts 1 Olton Ravens 0; U10s: Leafield Athletic 3 Rubery Juniors 1 (Leafield scored 30 goals in the tournament, only conceding this one goal -- a penalty; U11s: Lakeside (Chelmsley Wood) 1 Maypole United 0.
The under 7s, 13s and 15s will play their tournaments this weekend.
Alvechurch U9s 4 Callowbrook Swifts U9s B 0. In their first ever competitive match the visitors game a sound performance and there were impressive displays from Dan Miecynski, Tom Savage and MoM Harry Hay. Goalie Wayne Clarke made two point-blank saves to deny a strong Alvechurch side further goals.
