MANY Broms-grove Olympique Cycling Club riders had a successful weekend, with the racers and the tourers doing a lot of pedalling.
The weekend didn't start too well for the racers, with the Friday evening track racing at Halesowen cancelled due to heavy rain.
Saturday morning was fairly dull and overcast, but the rain held off for Wolverhampton's West Park races.
Alex Billington took decisive victories in the main race and the one lap time trial.
Peter Banham wasn't to be outdone, having lost his team-mate Will Goulbourne when he hit the deck with three laps to go. He chased the leaders down, caught them on the last lap and won the sprint finish convincingly.
Will wasn't too damaged and got back on his bike to finish seventh, having taken fourth in the earlier scratch race.
Genevieve and Franchie Billington also took wins in the girls' categories.
On Sunday at the Lichfield Club's Catton Park mountain bike race, Will Goulbourne more than made up for the previous day's misfortune by attacking from the drop of the flag to take a demanding lead in the youth race.
He held the lead for the whole race, taking the deep watersplash and the four metre near-vertical drop off in his stride. He now leads the series convincingly. Peter Yates finished tenth in the same event.
Several Olympique riders had a go in the fun event, with Ian Billington taking fourth place, Francine Billington fifth and first woman, Mike Cooper ninth and Richard Yates 11th.
Ross Dingley had a slightly disappointing day at the talent spotters track league event at Cardiff.
Against the best opposition in the country and still recovering from the viral infection which had kept him off his bike for nearly a fortnight, he did well to finish tenth, still retaining fifth place overall in the league.
The tourers also had a successful long weekend, with a 150 mile, three day ride taking in the Forest of Dean and the Teme Valley.
Next weekend sees several riders competing at the York Festival of cycling at the grass track and several other local track, road and circuit events.
Wednesday June 27 sees the start of a new MTB series at Wolverhampton's Aldersley Stadium and all youth riders are welcome. For details phone Ian on (01527) 833847.
